Fostering Creativity Using Technology:
Great technology! I’ve never heard of it before but would love to see it used in the classroom. As the program can be used in many ways, perhaps it would have been helpful to highlight that to foster and inspire student creativity it is the teachers responsibility to organise tasks that will explicitly allow students to think uniquely and come up with open-ended responses. Especially seeming’s the program would commonly be used for collecting responses categorised as either right or wrong. Overall, you provided a great introduction to the technology and I look forward to researching it further!
Also, your site looks amazing! You’ve obviously put lots of time into making it look fun and different! 😀
Design Based Thinking:
Great incorporation of the 5 design thinking stages. Overall the content provided in the blog was really relevant and interesting. Great reference to ‘Tinkercad’. the activity you suggested was very informative as you provided a number of different KLA’s that can be incorporated into the task. Well done! My only criticism is that i found this post quite difficult to read fluently. I found myself having to re-read sentences to properly comprehend the information.
Hey Nick,
First up… I love your blogs theme and design! It’s great! On topic and really clear and accessible.
Your intro and explanation of computational thinking was really detailed and thorough, well done!
Great discussion of student independence! I agree, to give students responsibility for their learning they can take control of their progress allowing them to be powerful creators and proud of their progress.
The discussion on microbits was relevant, however i think your post could be strenghthened with a specific example of how you can use the microbits for computational thinking and/or creativity.
In whole, the post was really great! Well done 🙂
Computational Thinking:
A really good post! You had a great introductory paragraph explaining computational thinking and its importance! Kodu sounds like a great resource! I’ve never heard of it before. I love that it allows students to create their own world and experiences, therefor providing a unique experience for every individual separate from each of their peers. This is great as it can give the teacher an opportunity to extend this task through other KLA’s e.g. the teacher could ask students to plan a speech in english about the world they have designed, giving students an opportunity to share their work and provide reasoning for their choices. I really enjoyed this read! 🙂
Robotics:
Hey Georgia, Well done!
I love that you have discussed robotics in relation to STEM and think it’s great that you added to that by noting that STEM has recently been amended to STEAM. I didn’t know that so reading your blog has been very informative Also, i agree… robotics is the way of the future, so engaging students in their early life is a great way to create interest and understanding for the next stages of students lives.
In future blogs i would recommend that you delve in a little deeper into the theme of the week and possibly provide explicit activities and lesson examples that could be created to build students digital skills in each of the topic areas.
Overall a good read! Thanks
Hey Jacob,
Great intro! The explanation of what robotics requires was great! Also i think the layout of your blog is so fun! Love the pictures!
The content within this post is very relevant and useful, however i think it is lacking fluency. Which makes the information difficult to read and comprehend.
I thought it was great how you discussed the benefits of making mistakes and how we can use robotics to learn from these mistakes. My personal experience of robotics in the tutorial class involved making many many mistakes so i think this was a great concept to touch on, emphasising how we can use our mistakes to assist our learning and reflection.
Awesome job!
Augmented Reality:
Hey Dave,
I enjoyed reading your post! I thought your explanation of Aurasma was really detailed which was very beneficial. I didn’t get a chance to look at that tool during tutorials so your in depth explanation was great and really helpful. You then used this resource to highlight how AR can foster creativity. This is something i personally struggle with at times and i think you nailed it so well done!
Overall, the post was very informative and included lots of relevant information. My only suggestion would be to include one or two extra sentences introducing AR and what it involves.
Virtual Reality:
Hey Asha,
You had a great introductory paragraph defining and explaining the virtual reality experience. In the next paragraph you spoke about how VR can be restricted and dangerous. I think an elaboration on this would have been helpful to further explain why these restrictions are in place.
The video you included was great! I wish i found it and linked it into my own post! Your classroom example is interesting and really relevant! I think this would be a fantastic tool for teachers to create rich learning experiences! The VR application can be especially useful for history and geography, and like you mentioned, religion.
Overall, the content was useful and relevant. Good effort!
Games & Learning:
Hey Ebony,
You provided a fantastic description and discussion about Minecraft! I only have a very small understanding of what is actually involved in Minecraft so i appreciated you going back tot the basics and completely introducing the game and what it’s about! Your focus on the creativity mode of the game was very relevant and a great concept to explore! You created a number of great examples of how Minecraft can be explicitly integrated into the class room so well done!
I can’t fault you!
Constructionism:
Hey Amy,
Congrats on a great final blog for the unit! You introduced the topic really well and it was a great idea to make note of other modern problem based theories including collaborative learning, inquiry based learning and project based learning. This then leaad to a great link to constructionism. (However you have mistaken the word with constructivism, confusing i know!) You did a good job in linking constructionism to the newly updated Science and technology syllabus with an emphasis on ‘design and production’.
You used a great example of Makey Makey to create a banana piano, the kids would love this!! Perhaps you could have included some photos from the tute this week?
Overall, a great overview of the content explored throughout the unit and in week twelves tute.
